--  第4届华人数学家大会2007年12月在杭州召开

新华网浙江频道2007年3月29日电(记者张乐、危玮)全球华人数学界的最高盛会--"全球华人数学家大会" (The International Congress of Chinese Mathematicians)将于2007年年底在杭州举行。世界著名数学家、浙江大学数学中心主任丘成桐3月28日在杭州宣布,为激发中国学生对数学的兴趣,创造更加公平的选拔机制,本届大会将首次新增"中国大学生毕业论文奖"。

    第四届国际华人数学家大会将定于2007年12月17日至23日在杭州举行。届时,将有约1500名来自数学、金融、统计、工程等学科的世界一流科学家云集杭州。大会还将颁出有华人数学界"菲尔兹奖"(Fields Medal,全名The International Medals for Outstanding Discoveries in Mathematics。全球数学界的最高奖)美誉的"晨兴数学奖"金奖、银奖,以表彰对数学研究或在推动数学研究发展的活动中作出重要贡献的华人科学家为目的的"陈省身奖",以及为促进中国数学学科发展作出重要贡献的外裔人士的"国际交流合作奖"。

    丘成桐说,为了增加培养年轻学者的途径,鼓励年轻人对数学的兴趣,大会在原有奖项基础上,今年还将增设"中国大学生毕业论文奖"。该奖项包括3个博士论文奖,3个硕士论文奖和6个学士论文奖。凡2004年到2006年从中国大陆、台湾和香港全日制正规大学毕业的博士、硕士和学士,其与数学有关的毕业论文均可参与评奖。

    "增设该奖项的目的在于:培养中国学生提高思考能力、表达能力和撰写论文的习惯。我们还积极鼓励年轻人通过与导师的交流完成出色的论文。为此,大会还将对获奖论文的指导老师给予一定的奖励,以鼓励其付出的努力。"据介绍,来自世界各国的一流数学家将组成评委团,对论文进行评阅,保证论文的选拔公正,公平。

    丘成桐介绍,本届大会还将邀请中、美官员就政府对理论科学的鼓励机制进行交流,并举办不同的讲座,探讨数学在金融、保险、工业等方面的应用。中国数学教育的发展路线,21世纪数学的发展走向也将成为本次大会讨论的议题。

    "全球华人数学家大会"是全球华人数学界最高水平的国际学术盛会。它以团结全世界华人数学家、提升中国数学研究水平和合作精神为目的,每三年举办一次。首届大会1998年在北京举行,随后两届先后在台北(2001)和香港(2004)举行。通过大会,许多在国际上拥有显赫声望和学术地位的华裔数学家彼此结识和熟悉,并开展了一系列的科研合作。会议甚至还吸引了一大批关心中国和华人数学学科发展的外国科学家。

    目前,"全球华人数学家大会"已发展为在国际上有很高知名度的数学盛会,同时,它也是目前华人界最有影响力的数学盛会。
